This first video is an introduction to mezzotint and to the course.

This course is for

-Curious artists with no prior experience in printmaking. 
-Artists who work in other mediums like oils, or graphite, charcoal, etc. who want to make and sell original prints rather than reproductions.
-Printmakers who want to add this technique to their studio practice. Somehow, mezzotint is a hybrid between relief and intaglio!
-Printmakers who just tried mezzotint and want to gain a better understanding of the technique, such as understanding more about the gauge of a rocker or the different grays created by scraping or burnishing.

THE QUESTION I ALWAYS GET
Can I make a mezzotint if I don't own a press or have never done any printmaking? Yes! You can work on a pre-rocked mezzotint plate anywhere, then book a day at an open-access printmaking studio where they also normally offer a little guidance with printing. If you have a one day session, print a proof first thing: then you will be able to keep working on your plate and should be done by the end of the day!

Aquí tienes una breve introducción a la mezzotinta y al curso.

Este curso es para:

• Artistas curiosos sin experiencia previa en grabado.
• Artistas que trabajan con otros medios, como óleo, grafito, carboncillo, etc., y que quieren crear y vender estampas originales en lugar de reproducciones.
• Grabadores que quieren incorporar esta técnica a su práctica de estudio: de alguna manera, es un híbrido entre el grabado en relieve y el grabado calcográfico.
• Grabadores que acaban de probar la manera negra y quieren comprender mejor la técnica: por ejemplo, entender las diferencias entre los distintos calibres de una cuna, o los diferentes grises que se pueden conseguir al raspar o bruñir.

LA PREGUNTA QUE SIEMPRE ME HACEN

¿Puedo hacer una mezzotinta si no tengo tórculo o si nunca he hecho grabado? ¡Sí!Puedes trabajar en una plancha de mezzotinta previamente graneteada en cualquier lugar y, después, reservar un día en un taller de grabado de acceso abierto, donde normalmente te ofrecerán un poco de orientación. Si dispones de una sesión de un día, primero hace una prueba de estampación y después podrás seguir trabajando en tu plancha. Con un poco de suerte, terminarla al final del día!

El curso también incluye la posibilidad de hacer preguntas. No dudes en dejar tus preguntas debajo del vídeo al que se refieren.

Existe una lista completa de materiales en el curso, pero, aparte de tener acceso a un tórculo, para empezar solo necesitas un rascador y una plancha de mezzotinta previamente graneada, que puedes adquirir a través de los enlaces anteriores.

Ecco una breve introduzione alla mezzotinta e al corso.

Questo corso è per:

• Artisti curiosi senza esperienza in stampa d’arte.
• Artisti che lavorano con altre tecniche come olio, grafite, carboncino, ecc., e che vogliono realizzare e vendere stampe originali anziché riproduzioni.
• Incisori che vogliono aggiungere questa tecnica al loro "arsenale". In qualche modo, la mezzotinta è un ibrido tra stampa in rilievo e stampa calcografica.
• Incisori che hanno provato la mezzotinta e vogliono comprendere meglio la tecnica: per esempio, capire le differenze tra i vari calibri del berceau, oppure i diversi grigi che si possono ottenere raschiando o brunendo.

LA DOMANDA CHE MI FANNO SEMPRE

Posso fare una mezzotinta, dato che non ho un torchio calcografico? Sì!
Basta avere una lastra già granita e si può lavorare ovunque. Ci sono tante opportunità di prenotare un giorno in un atelier di incisione, dove in genere fanno anche una iniziazione basica. Potrete iniziare stampando la prima prova, lavorare ancora sulla lastra e, chissà, per la fine della giornata avrete finito!
